As I See It - Thoughts on Getting Through This Difficult Time, Week 1
So, I am solidly in the at-risk age group. Thank heavens my children have cared enough to launch an unremitting campaign to persuade me to shelter down.
I am a profound introvert. You know, the kind of person who gets their energy from having time to themselves. Boy, there is a lot of opportunity to accrue energy these days.
I fancied that I did just fine spending all of my time alone. But with no church, no lunch after church with my family, and no Wednesday night gathering with a dear circle of neighbors, I now know I was spending more time with others than I realized.
And speaking of time, I have all of the time in the world. I have photography books to read, coursework to take, blogs to write, cameras to use, pictures to organize, and yet, I just cannot get started. It seems that I need to reorganize the new normal first.
In one week, the world has changed dramatically, but there is one thing for me that has not changed at all: my online community, which is largely made up of people who love photography and art. I depend on it more than ever. Here are some of the posts and exchanges that have made my days a little better:
Dogs and cats. I can’t get enough of them. I miss my dog. She got me through difficult times of loss in my life. When I see your pet, it helps me. Thanks, Ron and Jerry and others.
Humor. Go ahead. Post something funny. I find I laugh a couple of times a day. I wish this was what was growing exponentially. Thanks, Lillis and others.
For the photographers going outside to get pictures of flowers or sunsets or bugs, you are sharing your joy and it becomes my joy. Thanks, Joseph and others.
For my new friends in the Facebook group, iPhone Academy, your clearly creative post processing is a feast for the eyes. I am encouraged that I can find my creative, too. Thanks, Liz and others.
For Instagram friends, literally all over the world, your messages to me in comments and in direct messages make me feel connected. Thanks, Simona and Tony and others.
We are in this together. Thank heavens it is a part of the old order that has transferred to the new order. Stay safe!
