A CHEAT SHEET: One Way to Talk About Photos

I belong to two photography groups: SNAP, the Society of Nashville’s Artistic Photographers, and the Close to Home Photo Salon. It is a happy coincidence that a friend of mine, Emily Passino, is a leader in both groups.

The guest speaker of our February SNAP meeting was the judge for the December Gallery Exhibition for SNAP members at the Gordon JCC in Nashville. The judge was going to give a customary talk about the photos that he had selected for the Exhibition. Unfortunately, he had to cancel and we were asked to talk about our own photos in the Exhibition. It turns out that is really hard. To assist us, Emily shared a document with members of SNAP that a small group was developing in Close to Home. The document was “A CHEAT SHEET: One Way to Talk About Photos.” It helped me a lot. I got very excited about sharing this on my blog. James Maher, the founder of the Close to Home Photo Salon, graciously gave me permission.

The Cheat Sheet is presented below. Next week, and occasionally in the future, I am going to use it to talk about one or more photos. Talking about photos is a skill I would like to learn. I think it can ultimately help me to be a better photographer.
