As I See It - Thoughts on Getting Through This Difficult Time, Week 6

That is how many photos I have (had) in my Lightroom database. There are a few more lost souls on the computer that never made it to the database. Tell me this is not the perfect pandemic project?

I parenthetically noted (had). That is because at some level I have actually worked on the project for a couple of days. I have found three pictures I could use on the blog. I have to start looking for archival pictures, because I darn sure am not producing anything new right now. That is a pity. I was scheduled to start a photography workshop in NYC with Vineet Vohra this very week.

I think it is fair to say that to get production out of myself, I have to set a rule. Some rules are easier to follow than others. That is not because I like them or the task better, but disregarding the rule does not have a lot of consequences. So my rule is: Every day I have to delete 10 photos. You have to look at the big picture on this. In a year I will have deleted 3600 pictures. That is almost 10%. My progress report: Day 1 was exactly 10. Day 2 it was right down to the wire. I was going to bed and had not deleted 10 pictures. I deleted about 10. Who counts at that hour? When I hit the final delete button, low and behold, more than 180 were deleted. It was a true bonanza. That is because I am working in the file that has every picture. Over the years I mark some pictures to go, but I do not complete the deletion process. Well, that is done and done.

Am I slowly turning my personal pandemic ship around? I could not bring myself to look at my photos until this week. I think this is progress.

Now I am going to delete 10 more pictures. Stay safe!
