Things I Have Learned from Photography #8

8.     Every photographer wants and needs affirmation.

A “like” is an online smile. Taken from the collection iPhone Smiles.

One of the advantages of the Instagram community, I believe, is their generosity with likes and comments. The Facebook group is a lot tougher crowd. Here is where I am on the issues of liking:

I want and need affirmation and so I assume every other photographer and artist does, too. It only takes me a split second to “like” a picture. My message to the poster is, “You have gone to the trouble of taking and posting this picture and I have noticed it.” Some of my comments, but not all comments, and choosing favorites in a group of photos are my way of communicating my perception of good, better and best. If I want a photographer to know I think their picture is a 5 Star picture, I am pretty sure I communicate that clearly.

I encourage you to be generous with likes. I think it is possible it will make you happier and I know for an absolute fact that it will make the photographer or artist happier.
